19th February 2013 Prof Paul Connett gave a public talk at the REAP centre in Pyne Street. Around 40 people attended and formed a new/renewed action group dedicated to raising awareness in preparation of the upcoming referendum.
19th April 2012 Whakatane District Councillors vote for referendum on fluoridation to be held in conjunction with next year's local body elections. It was decided that the result would only become binding if the vote was over 65% see more.....

18th January 2012 Whakatane Beacon - Fluoridation Pros and Cons Debate Reignited. The Whakatane District Council keep promising to review fluoridationbut never quite get around to it. However, the issue has hit the headlines again and needs people to support this by writing to the editor, the mayor and the councillors. Send letter to editor@whakatanebeacon.co.nz.
Good 2011/2012 draft Annual Plan submissions and presentations were given and progress is definitely being made. People are encouraged to contact the Council, or any councillor they believe to be sympathetic, and find out if they intend to take the issue further.
6th December 2010Public meeting went well with 16 people attending. Included in this was two councillors and the president of Grey Power. The Whakatane District Council resolved this year to include fluoridation as an item in next year's draft annual plan. Residents need to contact the councillors to ensure this happens.
