Kapiti residents have launched a petition to have the fluoridation of Waikanae, Paraparaumu, Raumati and Raumati South stopped. Otaki and Paekakariki do not have fluoridation. If you live in any of the Kapiti communities (fluoridated or non-fluoridated) sign either this online petition or the paper-based petition that is currently being circulated. It is planned to present this submission to the Kapiti District Council early next year (2010).

"We, the undersigned, believe that it is time for Kapiti, as one of the few remaining fluoridating areas in the world, to recognise that fluoridation is outdated, has serious medical risks that far outweigh any supposed benefits, violates sound medical ethics and denies freedom of choice. Fluoridation must be ended now and we call on each of the councillors to reject this practice, unreservedly and permanently for the whole Kapiti district."
