Which countries fluoridate?
New Zealand is one of only eight countries in the developed world which fluoridate more than 50 percent of the municipal water supply. The other seven are: Australia, Colombia, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, United States and Singapore. Canada has about 40%; this is declining as communities reject the practice. Quebec City ceased fluoridation on April 1st, 2009, after four decades of the practice. About 11% of the United Kingdom is fluoridated.
Australia is 70% fluoridated, but this is set to increase with the introduction of fluoridation into Queensland and small towns in New South Wales.
The United Kingdom only has about 11%, this being mainly Birmingham, some of the West Midlands and Newcastle.
European countries have stopped or rejected fluoridation.
